7-Way Recommendation for Install of Brake Controller in 2023 Subaru Ascent
Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/09/2025 >
Question:
I am going to be towing a pop up camper, which requires a 7 pin connect electric brakes with my wife’s Subaru ascent 4 pin connection. Obviously I will be adding brake controller however, my question is this: Will a 4 to 7 pin connection provide everything necessary to provide power to the trailer brakes or do I have to wire in a 7 pin connection? If the latter wiring in a 7pin connection do you have recommendations or sell a kit or product which will do this with relative ease? Thanks in advance, Repeat Happy Customer Chris

Hey Chris, so a standard 4-way to 7-way adapter like the part # 37185 only has the taillight circuits active. To install a brake controllre you'd need an adapter like the part # ETBC7 which comes with the same 4-way to 7-way adapter but also with the wiring needed to wire in a brake controller. For a brake controller the P3 part # 90195 is a really great choice if you are looking for a recommendation for that as well?
