Switched from Hydraulic Brakes to Electric, What Coupler will Replace My Atwood 61101?

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/01/2025

Question:

Hello there, I have an Atwood 61101 brake hydraulic coupler, that is on my 22’ boat trailer. The system is 20 years old and has rusted out. I have replaced my hydraulic brakes with electric brakes. What coupler do I need to replace the 61101 with?

Hello Jeff,

Since you swapped out your hydraulic brakes for electric brakes you will no longer need a surge brake actuator since you will be controlling the brakes with a brake controller. To replace your Atwood 61101, I would go with the Buyers Products Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler - Auto Latch - 2" Ball - Bolt On - 10K # 3370091560. The 2 front holes are 3" apart which should be the same as your Atwood. The Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler - 2" Ball - 3" Channel - 6,000 lbs # F346000301 that you were looking at will work as well, just as long as your not over 6K.

So what kind of boat do you have on that trailer? I am currently on week 6 of waiting for the new motor for our Ranger. I fish some local bass tournaments here in Missouri at the Lake of the Ozarks, and Mark Twain Lake..... I'm getting pretty antsy for some tight lines!

Hey Jeff, How did the switch to the electric brakes go, and did the Buyers Products or Fulton Fas-Lok coupler work out for your boat trailer? I'm curious to know because it could really help others in a similar situation. Let me know if you need any more assistance!
