Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 06/30/2025

Question:

I have a 30 or old single axle boat trailer with 14 rim but no brakes. Is there an assembly that I can add brakes to it. it has a 4 hole plate on the inside of the spindle. Mark

Hi Mark; do you know your axle capacity and who made the axle? More than likely it is a standard 3,500 lb axle but there are some variations that could be hard to find parts for. If it is a 3,500 lb axle and the brake flange matches the measurements below you can use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-468-469 you were looking at or the etrailer # AKEBRK-35-SA. You will also need the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K which fits #84 spindles.

If you have a different capacity or measurements let me know in the comments below and I'll see what is available.

Hey Mark, did you find out the axle capacity and manufacturer for your boat trailer? I'm curious if the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes or the etrailer brakes worked out for you. Let me know how it went, as I'm eager to assist others in similar situations!
