What is Causing My Trailer Valet Trailer Jack from Raising all the Way Up to Unhook My Trailer?

Updated 06/23/2025 | Published 06/22/2025

Question:

Hi, I have the JXS Drill Powered Swivel Trailer Jack w/ Wheel - Sidewind.. It has been great to have. Recently when I get my boat hitch almost up enough to drive away the jack starts turning very hard. My Milwaukee drill wouldnt get it. Other than the one grease zurk at the top how do I lubricate the inside? Or is there possibly other issues?

Hello Tom,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Trailer Valet JXS Drill Powered Swivel Trailer Jack w/ Wheel - Sidewind - 14" Lift - 1.2K # TV76FR, that’s definitely frustrating, especially when you’re almost ready to hit the road. It sounds like your JXS Drill Powered Swivel Trailer Jack has been solid, but now it's binding near the top of the lift and your Milwaukee drill can’t power through it.

The most likely cause is that the internal gears or screw are dry or gummed up. Even though there’s a grease zerk on top, it doesn’t always reach everything inside. Over time, the thrust bearing or main screw can lose lubrication or get contaminated. There's also a chance the jack was slightly bent or stressed, which can cause binding, especially near full extension.

I’d recommend first hitting it with a manual grease gun using lithium or marine grease while cranking the jack up and down to spread it through the internals. If that doesn’t help, you might consider popping the top cover off to inspect and regrease the gears and bearing directly. Look for signs of rust, metal shavings, or old, hardened grease.

If that doesn't do the trick, please let me know.

What kind of boat do you have on the trailer? We just had to order a new motor for our Ranger, so I have been stuck on land for a few weeks now....
