Hello Jacob,
Yes, you can use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall # CAB-C5GX1216 with a flatbed, but there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure it works safely and smoothly. The adapter is designed to let a fifth-wheel trailer connect to a standard 2-5/16" gooseneck ball, which is usually found in the bed of a pickup. If your flatbed has that same type of gooseneck ball installed, and it's placed in a spot where the fifth-wheel kingpin can line up properly, then you're off to a great start. One of the big things to double-check is whether there's enough vertical clearance between your trailer's pin box and the deck of the flatbed. This adapter has an adjustable height range from 12 to 16 inches, which gives you some flexibility, but you’ll want to make sure your setup doesn’t leave the trailer sitting way too high or too low.
Also, some flatbeds have a recessed gooseneck mount or surrounding features like toolboxes or fender wells, so it’s worth confirming there’s enough space around the ball for the adapter to sit and function properly. Just make sure nothing interferes with the rotation or movement of the adapter, especially when making turns. And of course, safety first, make sure your gooseneck ball is securely installed and rated appropriately, and don’t forget your safety chains if you’re creating a custom towing setup.
What kind of camper are you pulling? Any big adventures coming up in the near future?
