Roadmaster Comfort Ride and Disc Brake Conversion for Trailer with Tandem 8k Axles

Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/13/2025

Question:

Hello, I am interested in the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension kit with Shocks and also electric over hydraulic disc brakes DeeMax or Kodiak for my 5th wheel travel trailer with 8k axles to replace the current drums. I am not able to verify the axle diameter right now, but I have pictures of the labels on each axle and I am hoping you can tell from that information everything you need to let me know the correct parts. Thanks.

Hey Abe, your 8k axles should be 3 inch in diameter which the part # RM-2460-2580 that you referenced would be correct for but you still should probably measure because it's not unheard of for them to be 3-1/2 inch. The parts you'd need for the electric over hydraulic disc kit conversion would be:

- Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Dacromet - 8,000 lb Dexter Axle # K2HR858DD

- Bearing Kit for Trailer Brakes with 13" Hub/Rotor and 5/8" Bolts - Grease - 7K to 8K # DBRKHW85G

- HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS381-8067

- Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle - 20' # 20TA-BLKIT or 25' # HS496-252

- Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Built-In Charger - Side Load # 20099

Hey Abe, did you have a chance to measure your axle diameter to confirm if it's 3 inches or 3-1/2 inches? I'm here to help you find the right parts for your 5th wheel trailer, so let me know if you need further assistance!
