What Would Cause 2025 Surveyor Legend 235FKLE7 to Sway

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/29/2025

Question:

We have traded in our old Salem fx Platinum4500lbs for a 2025 Surveyor Legend 235FKLE7700lbs. We have installed the Recurve R6 600Lbs weight distribution hitch that we used with the smaller camper to this new one. It sways pretty good going down the highway at 60-65 mph. Can I upgrade the spring bars to help with this..maybe going to 1200 springs? Reading forums there is a mixed bag and I just want to get this under control. I pull with a 2020 Chevy Trailboss 6.2L and have upgraded the rear suspension to Icon 2.0 shocks. Any input would help.

Hey Nicholas, so the biggest cause for trailer sway is improper tongue weight relative to the total trailer weight. What that means is that it is normally caused by having too light of tongue weight. You need to have the tongue weight between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight and also you need to have the trailer sitting as level as possible.

Is there any way to move any weight in the trailer forward? That will most likely take care of it.

Hey Nicholas, did you have a chance to adjust the weight distribution in your trailer to see if it helped with the sway? I'm asking because your experience might help others facing similar issues with their setups.
