Looking For Solutions To Use A Cargo Carrier For A Wheelchair On A 2013 Honda CRV

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/29/2025

Question:

We have a 2013 Honda CRV. We want to get a hitch for a cargo carrier and wheelchair that would weigh 300 lbs. exceeding the cars tongue weight by at least 100 lbs. Can you install a weight distribution hitch on it and would that allow the extra weight? Thanks, David Ferriman

Hey David,

We do not have any parts that are going to allow more weight than what the vehicle is rated for. Even though we may have some hitches that are rated for more we never recommend exceeding what you vehicle is built to withstand. Weight distribution systems are for trailers, there are not any for static loads like cargo carriers or bike racks.

If you want to let me know what the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle is, as well as the weight of the wheelchair, I am happy to take a look to see if there are any options you could go with.
