Which Swing Away Adapter Would Be Better for a Cargo Carrier? Kuat Pivot or Yakima Backswing?

Question:
I am trying to decide between the Kuat Pivot and the Yakima counterpart. I prefer the Kuat as it seems to be heavier built and more secure but I think I need it to go a little higher off the ground. The Yakima is more elevated than the Kuat. Can I get the Kuat pivot and use a hitch adapter like the Curt High-Low adapter to raise it higher off the ground? I will primarily be using the set up with a cargo carrier to take extra gear with me with I go surf fishing on the beach on Hatteras Island. While this is. not hard core off roading, beach driving can present some challenges such as dealing with ruts and dips along the tracks. If you think the Yakima Swing Away adapter is a better match for my needs. I could get that instead. Any advice is great appreciated.

Hey Tom. If you're worried about the height of your cargo carrier, I recommend the Yakima BackSwing item # Y02483 over the Kuat Pivot 2 item # PVD20B because the bike rack will sit 3/4" higher. Neither one of these swing away hitch extenders can be used with high low adapters though. The shanks for both are going to extend out at the same height of your hitch. The Backswing is going to be almost 2-1/2" shorter.
The big difference in the Yakima BackSwing item # Y02483 over the Kuat Pivot 2 item # PVD20B is how far they swing out. The Backswing goes 90 degrees out while the Pivot 2 goes 120 degrees out from your rear hitch. Using a cargo carrier you're most likely not going to be able to go 120 degrees so the Yakima BackSwing item # Y02483 is still the best option.
What kind of cargo carrier do you have?
