My TruRyde left brake is seized after plugging into the van. It was not seized when I plugged into it. You noted it is tough to loosen the brake shoesis there a secret I can try?

Hello Ed, thanks for reaching out. The brakes should not be engaging unless you are plugged into the tow vehicle and the manual override/brake pedal is pressed. If the brakes are locking up as soon as you plug in, this means there is either a wiring issue which is bringing 12v power to the brakes when it shouldn't, or there is a mechanical issue with the brakes. I would try plugging in the trailer and testing your brake wires on the left side. There should be no power going to the brakes so if you are getting 12v power when you shouldn't be you will need to inspect your wiring and look for any shorted connections. You can also check your brake assembly and make sure everything is moving freely and isn't rusted or corroded.
I hope this helps. Hit the reply button below and let me know if there is anything else I can do to that.

My problem was quickly recognized at the trailer hitch business. The hot wire and the break wire were reversed on a separate vehicle. The result was my brakes were seized upon plugging in. The final result was I attempted to reduce brake tension and I damaged the brake adjustment mechanism. Expensive effort on my part.
