Is the 18" by 18" Measurement on the Replacement Access Door for Furrion the Overall Measurement?

Updated 05/01/2025 | Published 04/30/2025

Question:

Hi. I have an old Jayco and we recently rebuilt the water heater. This year, the guy who stores it sideswiped the heater door and the door and frame around it are shot. I cant find a replacement atwood on my 1999 Jayco so want to cover it with a new door and trim. I need to cover an 18x14 cut out. I see your Part Number: FR73FR measures 18x18. Is that the outside trim dimension or door? If it is the door dimension, can you send me the overall outside trim dimension? Im hopeful.....

Hello Lance,

We actually have an Atwood door replacement, the Replacement Door for Atwood RV Water Heaters - 6 Gallon - Arctic White # AT91386. This door measures 18" wide and 14 1/2" tall. The only issue is that it does not come with the trim.

The Replacement Access Door for Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - 18" x 18" - White # FR73FR that you asked about is 18" wide by 18" tall, that is the overall dimensions.

Is the Atwood the correct door replacement for an exact match?

Thank you for the quick response. The door is actually ok - it is the frame / trim that is in pieces. I’m running out of ideas hence my request on the overall size of the door on your site. Do you have anything (flush mount trim/door) larger so I can cover up the missing trim? Do you sell trim kits and I cut to measure? Appreciate the help….

@Lance We do not sell trim kits that you can cut to size unfortunately. If you have the right tools you could most likely make your own. Here is some information I found on the web: To start, you'll want to measure the area around your water heater access door. Be sure to include a couple of extra inches on each side so the trim can overlap and really give it that neat, framed-in look. Once you've got your measurements, grab a sheet of material, something weather-resistant like aluminum, stainless steel, or even a heavy-duty plastic board works well. Mark your trim shape on the material, and then carefully cut it out using tin snips or a saw that works with your chosen material. Don’t forget to cut out the center so the water heater door still opens easily! Smooth out the edges with a file or some sandpaper so there are no sharp spots. Next, drill some evenly spaced pilot holes around the trim so you can mount it securely. Before attaching anything, it’s a great idea to add a bead of weatherproof sealant to the back of the trim to keep out moisture. You can even add foam weather stripping if you want an extra-tight seal. Once you're happy with the fit, screw the trim into place using stainless steel or rust-resistant screws, and dab a little sealant over the screw heads and trim edges for a clean, waterproof finish. And if you’re feeling extra crafty, go ahead and paint the trim to match your RV exterior, it’s those little touches that make a big difference. What is the model of your water heater?
