Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Keystone Springdale Mini RV

Updated 04/23/2025 | Published 04/20/2025

Question:

Hi hope you are well i have a question regarding a tow hitch weight distribution system and swaybar. I just bought a small Keystone Springdale Mini RV. I would say weight is 5000LBS. My tow vehicle is a 2020 F150 XLT 5LV8. I am looking at getting a hitch as mentioned but what is the negative of going with 1500lbs weight tow hitch and not 1000LBS one? I am also looking at VEVOR Weight Distribution Hitch, 1,500 lbs Weight Distributing Hitches Kit with Sway Control or the Equal-i-zer 90001200 Equalizer Hitch. What would you recommend? First time RV owner long time boat owner and find towing RV is much different! More sway and less aerodynamic.

Hey Jacobus glad you asked your question and congrats on the new RV! You are going to be way overrated if you use a 1,500 lbs or 1,000 lbs tongue weight rated weight distribution system. Bigger in this situation is definitely not going to be better. If you run that high of a capacity system you'll have an extremely ridged and uncomfortable ride. Plus there's potential to damage your trailer's frame.

For your Keystone Springdale Mini RV, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37060ET. This is a similar system to the Equal-i-zer item # EQ90-00-1200 you referenced but it's going to be right inside the tongue weight range of your trailer at 200 lbs - 600 lbs. It looks like the highest rate Keystone Springdale Mini RV tops out at 4,350 lbs so this would put your tongue weight somewhere between 435 lbs - 600 lbs.

What specific model is your Keystone Springdale?

Hi Jerred really appreciate the feedback. I have the 1800BH model. I will definitely check out those links and hope this helps others as well. It's so difficult with all the different advice online to get the right advice. You guys have been helping me for many years with my boat parts and now adding my RV to the mix. Much appreciated.

@Jacobus No problem happy to help! You came to the right place those forums can be a wild circus of information some times. The Keystone Springdale Mini RV 1800BH is the biggest model and it tops out at 4,350 lbs so you're definitely going to want to go with the Equal-i-zer item # EQ37060ET. If you have any questions going forward go ahead and throw them into the comment box and I'll help you with them.

@JerredH last question Sir I see you also have Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW Would the 800 be to much for the trailer? Just thinking if I want to upgrade RV in future to bigger one. If I go with this and it will handle it it might be a good medium or should I stay with the 600LBS?

@JerredH I measured without trailer front wheel and rear and after trailer was hooked up. Front =36' rear=39.5' no trailer. With trailer front =36.5' rear = 38.5'. So front lifted 0.5 inch and rear bagged 1 inch with trailer. So not bad I think. My boat drops it 2 inches in the rear when hooked up.
