Brake Controller Recommendation for 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 04/06/2025

Question:

Hi. I need to get a break controller for my truck and Im not sure how to decide which to get. The truck is a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. It has the towing package, but I dont know how to tell if its the factory tow package referred to on your site. It has a 7-pin electrical connection. I dont know if I trust the wireless break controllers and dont know why I would pick one over the wired ones. I also dont understand the difference between different types/brands or what would be compatible. Hopefully someone can help me decide. Thank you

Hey Brandon, I'd be happy to help pick you out a brake controller for your 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. I also don't care for the wireless brake controllers as the wireless connection is just one more thing to keep track of that can potentially have issues so going with a wired option is what I would recommend like the Prodigy P3 part # 90195. This brake controller is basically considered the gold standard for brake controllers because of how well it works and how reliable it is.

It uses an inertia sensor to detect how hard you are applying the truck brakes and sends back a proportional amount of braking power to the trailer brakes so you get a really smooth stop.

This will install by wiring to the 4 wires you have under the dash of your truck currently. Check out the attached install video that would be down below.

Hey Brandon, how did things go with the Prodigy P3 brake controller on your Silverado? Did the wiring under the dash match up like we expected? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar truck.
