Can A 25-1/4" Leaf Spring Be Replaced With A 26" Long Spring?

Question:
I just ordered 2 of moryde allTrek 4ooo with 4sets of 6- leaf double eye springs that are 26” in length. 3000lb capacity Was wondering if it’s going to be a problem because I realized the old leaf springs I’m told from manufacturer are 25-1/4 “ with 4 leafs rated at 2500lb capacity. Went this way because not only because they are currently flat ,”no curvature” , but I also need to gain some height due to the 2” slope from vehicle, Thinking the width of extra leafs and arch would give me the extra height and using the alltrek4000 would give me the cushion from the heavier springs. , thanks, Edgar

Hey Edgar, thanks for writing in, and good question. The general rule of thumb for replacing leaf springs is a 1/2" tolerance. Going from a 25-1/4" spring to a 26" spring MIGHT be ok, but there is a chance the springs could be too long and might throw the suspension off center. Especially if they flex a bit when under a load it could put the shackles or equalizer at a weird angle.
Going from a 2,500 lb spring to a 3,000 lb spring is not a problem, especially if the original springs were flattening out when under a load. That won't be enough of a capacity increase to make the ride rough or anything like that. You are correct the extra leaves will raise the ride height slightly. A stronger spring shouldn't flex/sag as much either.
Since you already have the 26" springs in hand, I'd go ahead and set everything up and see how it lines up. If things aren't lining up right, you could send them back and get a 25-1/2" long 3,000 lb spring like part # DX83CR. This is only 3-leaf though so you wouldn't get the same ride height increase. We can do a return on the other springs as long as they haven't been used. A test fit is totally fine.
What kind of camper is all this for?
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
