Question:
Hello, We drive a 2016 Toyota Sienna that did not come with a factory tow package. We have installed the hitch and 4-way plug for lights, but I am wanting to add the brake controller also. I would like to use the C51180 BlueTooth controller or similar, but first I need to install the rest of my wiring for the 7-Way Trailer Harness. I was planning to use the Universal Installation Kit Part ETBC7 but it looks like it is made only for hard wiring to a wired brake controller. One of the wires coming off the 7-way harness goes straight to the brake controller, which I would not have if I was using the bluetooth controller. Is it possible to install a 7-way Trailer Harness wiring in a way that it would work with a Blue Tooth controller? Thank you for your help, Neil

Hello Neil,
You were on the right track, but we actually have a kit that is specifically for wireless brake controllers like the # C51180. Instead of the # ETBC7, you are going to want the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L.
This kit includes a 7-way connector and all the necessary hardware to install a wireless brake controller. It’s a great option because it eliminates the need to run wiring to an in-cab controller, only a connection to the battery for 12V power is required. This results in a cleaner installation with fewer wires compared to traditional in-cab controllers.
I attached an install video on a 2022 Sienna for you to use a reference as the install will be the same on your 2016.
What kind of trailer are you looking to pull with your Sienna?

Hey Kate, Thanks for pointing me to that kit. I think that is exactly what we need. We are pulling a small pop-up camper that has brakes on it, which is why I was wanting to upgrade to the 7-Way with power to the brakes. With the bluetooth connection it will make installation much simpler for us which makes sense for us since we will only be pulling this pop-up a few times a year. I appreciate the help. I'll let you know if I run into any snags during installation. Neil
