Recommended E-Tracks and Straps for Towing a 4,000 lbs Car

Updated 02/17/2025 | Published 02/10/2025

Question:

Hello, I am planning to purchase 1 - E62NR 2 - EM9162, and 3 - EM59150 to use on my 2017 Forest River Continental Cargo aluminum trailer. The items above are to be used to secure a 4,000 lb. car. My first question is - are these components strong enough to do this task? Secondly after reading this review from your page – not designed for securing tie downs at an angle. I tried to secure my car to the trailer floor. The rings ripped through the E-Track plate. The load was well under the rating of the E-Track and rings. While the reps at etrailer were responsive to my issue Erickson reps were not, the product was not covered under warranty. I was told that the tie downs must extend vertically upwards from the E-Track. Lessoned learned and I ended up using the recessed D rings instead.inch It seems to me that these components are designed to be used horizontally - as described above is referencing. The ability to use them horizontally is one of the main reasons I would like to buy them as this keeps straps, rachets away from my car. Also, should I purchase the reinforcement plates to use with the tracks? Finally, where are these items manufactured? Thanks for any help.

Yes, they are Lyndon and thanks for the pictures! The etrailer E Track Wheel Tie-Down Straps item # e62NR and the Erickson E-Chock Wheel Chock item # EM09162 are designed to attach to the Erickson Horizontal E Track item # EM59150. These componets combined will have no issues securing your 4,000 lbs car.

Thanks for the review. I double checked after reading it. That failure definitely sounds like user error. I always recommend using the etrailer E-Track Backing Plates w/ Hardware item # e96RR to secure the tracks.

Some of the components are made in the USA and some in Canada.

Where are you planning on towing your car to?

I live in the western nc mountains and tow to local car shows. Fairly steep mountainous terrain. I think the #EM09162 would be too short for my 15 inch tires, and wheel chocks, so I am switching to the #EM09147 4 feet. Thanks again for the help. Lyndon

@Lyndon That sounds like a lot of fun! Yeah switching to the longer item # EM19147 is a solid choice.
