Recommended Camera System With Side-View Cameras For A Truck And Boat Trailer

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/26/2024

Question:

As I research for an observation system for a truck towing at 25foot boat, I am wondering if the side cameras where available might be capable of showing the trailer tires if mounted, for example, on the trucks tailgate? As well as giving a decent view of the passing vehicles etc. I would plan to mount the rear camera either on the transom of the boat or atop the cabin, which would be about 6 ft forward of but higher than the transom. If you have any suggestions, or videos addressing boats rather than square RVs, bring them on! Ann

Hi Ann,

The Rear View Safety Backup Camera System # RVS-062710 is going to be the best option we offer for what you're trying to do. You could mount the side-view cameras to the side of the bed around just past the rear wheel well. This system does have to be hardwired and does not function through a wireless signal like most other systems on the market so you'll have a bit more work to do running wires.

This is also going to come with two rearview cameras, you could mount one to your truck either on the roof by the third brake light or down by the license plate to help with connecting to the trailer. The other one could be mounted to the trailer winch support post to for a better view of the boat when loading/unloading it from the trailer.

Hey Ann, how did the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System work out for your truck and boat setup? Did the side cameras give you a good view of the trailer tires and passing vehicles? Your update could make it easier for others towing boats to plan their camera placement.
