Comparing Offset Gooseneck Hitch Balls For A 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 With Reese Elite Puck System

Updated 12/23/2024 | Published 12/10/2024

Question:

I have a 2016 Silverado 2500 crew cab with 6’6 bed. I have a Reese elite puck system with gooseneck hitch. I would like an offset system. I really like the Gen y 5” system like item GY43XR. Not sure there’s one that would match my system. The CURT 60668 is a 4” offset and looks very adjustable. Would one of these work with my system, preferably the Gen Y but it’s fixed.

Hey Cameron,

The Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck # RP30158-68 is the same pattern as Ford's OEM puck system spacing so you would be able to use the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems # GY43XR. The Curt RockerBall Multi-Fit Ball Kit w/ 4" Offset # C78ZV (60668) would also fit and comes with Curt's RockerBall hitch ball. This helps absorb shock for a smoother ride quality.

The Curt # C78ZV is adjustable so that you can fit various puck systems so it might be the better option if you plan on switching trucks later on and want to reuse the offset ball. I personally prefer the solid design of Gen-Y's # GY43XR but with this you'd have to either stick with a Ford truck or purchase a new offset ball if you switched to a GM or Ram puck system.

The other factor here is the 1" difference between the two. If you've measured and that 1" difference would allow you to make a full 90 degree turn without having to worry about the trailer hitting the cab that would be the difference maker for me. Let me know what you think and if there's any other factors that you have in mind and I'd be happy to keep comparing options to get you the right fit.

I thought it was based on the Ford also when I bought it. It does have a 13” x 30”pattern for out side puck holes. But from real of bed to back puck holes is 32 5/8” plus 13” to get to forward puck holes. 45 5/8”. The hole for the goose ball is 42 3/8” from rear of bed. Subtract the two and put not a 3 1/4” from puck holes back to goose receiver. Gen Y for part number GH21001 shows the dimensions referenced from front of plate at 1.5” center of pucks and 7.188 to center of goose receiver 5.688” vs the 3 1/4 I have with elite setup. Unless I’ve missed something.

@Cameron I pulled both of the Gen-Y # GY43XR and Curt # C78ZV to measure the spacing and you are correct about the Gen-Y spacing being 5.688" from the center of the cab-side pucks to the gooseneck hitch hole so this would not work. The Curt has two different brackets with a slot to fit a variety of spacings across multiple brands. This would also install backwards of how the Gen-Y does so you'll want to measure from the center of the pucks on the tailgate side back to the center of the gooseneck hitch to see where yours comes out to. With the short bracket center of Rockerball shank is going to sit 7-1/2" to 8-1/2" from the center of the pucks and with the long bracket this measurement is 14-1/2" to 16", which would be too long for the Elite's 13" x 30" puck spacing. It looks like there unfortunately isn't an offset ball compatible with the spacing of your Reese Elite so you would either need to swap out the Elite for another gooseneck hitch in order to use an offset ball or go with a standard gooseneck hitch ball.
