Which One is Better the Gen-Y Offset Gooseneck Ball for Ford Puck Systems or the Curt?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 05/03/2025

Question:

Hi. I have a 5th wheel that I just put a Gen-Y gooseneck conversion on. Im switching trucks from a ram short bed to a ford shortbed. Do you recommend the Gen-y goosepuck offset or is there another option that will work just as well. If so what do you recommend. Thanks

Hey Eric! I do recommend the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems item # GY43XR. Curt's got one item # C78ZV but I prefer Gen-Y's because of the sturdiness of it's construction. Plus the Gen-Y will give you a 5" offset over the Curt's 4".

The one perk of the Curt item # C78ZV is that it's adjustable so that you can fit various puck systems. It might be a better option if you plan on switching trucks again and want to reuse the offset ball.

What kind of 5th wheel trailer do you have?

Hey Eric, did you decide to go with the Gen-Y Hitch for your Ford short bed? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others looking to make a similar switch.

@JerredH Yes I did. I ended up contacting Gen-Y and they were able to just send me the base plate and I used the offset ball from my Ram setup. It works great.
