Extension Needed To Connect A Gooseneck 7-Way Cable To A 2018 Chevy Silverado

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/08/2024

Question:

The electric cord from the Goose Neck to the back of my Silverado is too short. The trailer is a 2005 and the truck is a 2018. Is there an extension cord or a longer full length cord available.

Hi Ann/John,

Do you have an in-bed 7-way socket that you're plugging into or are you plugging into the 7-way socket built into the rear bumper? If you're plugging into the bumper 7-way you'll want to get the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Plug # 50-97-410. This would plug in-line with your factory 7-way and then run up to the bed for an easier connection.

If you are connecting to an in-bed 7-way and still need some length I honestly recommend just replacing the trailer's 7-way cable with a longer one but you could still go with a extension like the Curt # C56080. An extension can get you by but it leaves you open to more opportunities for something to fail and is one more thing you'll have to lug around and deal with so I try to avoid using them. If you want to replace the current 7-way cable then let me know how long your current one is and I can look for a longer option for you.

Hey Ann/John, how did things go with the wiring setup between your gooseneck trailer and Silverado? Did the 90-degree harness or the Curt extension give you the reach you needed? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with short trailer cords.
