I have a 2011 ram 3500 dually with the bandw turnover ball gooseneck setup and a bandw companion 5th wheel hitch rated at 20k. I currently own a drv mobile suites 5th wheel. It is triple axle, dry weight of 20,300 and gross weight of 24k. I need a heavier rated 5th wheel hitch of 25k to 30k. Is there a setup that can utilize the current turnover gooseneck setup or do I need to remove it and install an in bed or below bed rail system with a new 5th wheel hitch?

Hey Daniel,
You could swap out the pin box for a fifth wheel-to-gooseneck style pin box and then just use the gooseneck hitch ball you should've gotten with the Turnoverball hitch. For this I recommend a Gen-Y pin box, but we'll need to know your fully loaded pin weight and the bolt pattern for your current pin box to pick out the correct fit. To determine the bolt pattern you'll want to look for the white sticker on it that lists the LCI item #, serial #, and RPO # so we can look up your pin box.
The alternative to this would be to remove the Turnoverball hitch and then install base rails and a 5th wheel hitch like the Curt PowerRide # C75VJ. This kit would come with custom-fit mounting brackets for the base rails and the Curt PowerRide offers a 30k capacity so you'll be well equipped to handle the weight of the trailer. The drawback here is that you'll have the hole for the Turnoverball hitch still in the bed and you'll now have rails permanently mounted in the bed that can be in the way when trying to load other items.
