Suspension Enhancement for 2023 Ford F-350 With Tremor Package Carrying In-Bed Camper

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/22/2024

Question:

Hi, I have a 2023 f350 XLT crewcab SRW shortbed 4x4 with the Tremor package. I’m planning to purchase a truck camper in the next four months, and I’m interested in getting your recommendations for upgrades to the suspension. I want to plan for the full load to take the truck to just under GVWR. I’ve looked at all the products from Firestone, sumosprings, Hellwig, timbren, etc. I want to both level the truck under load, and reduce sway. And go as simple as possible. And not affect ride quality when unloaded. What combo of products would you recommend? Thanks!

Hi Cory; based on your requirements I recommend adding air bags and an anti-sway bar to your 2023 Ford F-350. The Firestone # F35FV are fully adjustable so you can get them set just right for the camper and they have 5,000 lbs of load leveling support. When you're unloaded you can run them at the minimum 5 psi so they won't have any impact on ride quality.

Air bags don't quite check the box for as simple as possible but they're going to be the best option to do everything else you want. In general they're the best option for in-bed campers. These will reduce sag, help reduce bumps and shocks, cut down on sway, and help with side to side leveling since they can be adjusted individually. It is also a good idea to add an onboard compressor like # AL25980EZ (single path) or # AL58WQ (dual path) so you can adjust them anywhere you go.

If you really don't want to worry about adjusting air bags the next best thing would be the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSR-128-47-2 you were looking at. These also have a 5,000 lb capacity and don't require any adjustments once installed. Since they can't be adjusted you won't be able to completely remove the impact on unloaded ride quality like you can with air bags but the difference won't be too terribly harsh. If you do not have a bump stop perch over your axle you need # SSR-129-47-2 instead.

The Hellwig Adjustable Rear Anti-Sway Bar # HE44FR will be the key to cutting down the sway. This will increase stability which will reduce the extra side-to-side movement from the camper. It has a 4140 chromoly steel construction and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This combined with the air bags or SumoSprings will give you a really solid setup and keep you from having a bad towing experience.

Hey Cory, how did things turn out with the suspension upgrades on your F-350 for the camper setup? Did you go with the Firestone air bags and sway bar or try the SumoSprings instead? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar build.
