Troubleshooting Curt Wiring Harness That Causes Jeep to Not Start

Updated 11/25/2024 | Published 11/22/2024

Question:

I just installed curt wiring harness c56208 yesterday. Today leaving after work my jeep wouldnt start and was acting life there was no power going to it. Got it jumped and got home and turned my jeep off and then it wouldnt start again. Battery has 12.4v on it. Once I disconnected the power cable for the harness. My keep started just fine like nothing was wrong. Why would this be?

Micah, that's very strange. Installing a wiring harness like the Curt T-Connector # C56208 should not cause your vehicle to not start. I'd suggest checking the fuses and relays and make sure that none of them are loose or damaged.

Since you verified the battery is fully charged, and everything works when the harness is not installed, then If it continues to happen I'd suspect the harness is the issue and I'd recommend going with a different harness like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118605.

Thank you! What's the difference between the two harnesses? Also if the fuse isn't plugged in to the fuse holder wouldn't it not be drawing any power when trying to stay?

@Micah Of course! That is also correct about the fuse, Micah. Also, the difference between the two harnesses is the brand. They're essentially the same thing, but if the harness is the issue then swapping to a different branded harness altogether should fix it.

@BryceD would a short in the power wire be causing the vehicle to not start. When I first installed it, my jeep started up just fine and started fine in the morning. When I left work that was when it had issues.

@Micah It could be. Have you checked for a short yet?
