Can Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner Replace 9k Btu AC On Camper

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/12/2024

Question:

I have a 9k BTU AC with heat pump on my small camper. Would this 18k BTU be overkill for this small space? Is this unit still significantly quieter than any RV ac unit? Are there plans for a smaller version of the Chill Cube? If so what is the expected availability? Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter; if the Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner # LC22BX was a standard replacement AC it would be overkill for a 9k replacement. You might think it would be more efficient but a significantly higher capacity can lead to more cycling and potentially extra power used compared to the smaller unit.

However, the Chill Cube has a whisper-quiet mode that runs continuously so there won't be the same on-and-off cycles other higher capacity units would have. The power draw is really low so it may actually use less power than your current unit overall. This is the quietest unit out there right now.

The # LC22BX is just the AC unit. If you want to use this on your camper you will need all of the components for a complete installation. I'm assuming you have a non-ducted setup so you can choose from the following based on color:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ductless - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR27TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ductless - 18,000 Btu - White # FR59TD

Hey Peter, how did things go with the Furrion Chill Cube on your camper? I'm curious if the whisper-quiet mode made a noticeable difference in noise compared to your old 9k BTU unit. Your experience could help others deciding between sizes for smaller spaces.
