How To Wire In The Curt Echo Under-Dash Brake Controller In A 2025 Mazda CX-70

Updated 11/11/2024 | Published 11/09/2024

Question:

I have a 2025 mazda cx 70 GTP with factory 7pin hitch installed. In order to operate brakes on trailer I need a controller. I like the idea of hidden modules, as to keep the interior factory. My question is, do I need a seperate wire run from plug to controller with this C22RV? Any info or guidance to a better option would greatly be appreciated. Thank you

Hey Shawn,

If your CX-70 has the factory tow package then you can use the included adapter harness # C32FV to install the Echo # C22RV. If you don't have the factory tow package then you'll want to switch to the # C47YV and you'd have to splice in the wire harness to your factory wiring. It would need to be wired in the following manner:

Blue - brake controller output pin in 7-way
White - ground to frame
Black - run to battery with inline circuit breaker # PK54530
Red - run to cold side of brake light switch

The cold side of the brake light switch is going to be the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is being depressed. You can use a hook and probe tester # PTW2993 to see which wire this is. If you can't find it or the wire gauge is too thin to splice into you can install a stop light switch kit # RM-751000 and use its output as the signal for the red wire.
