Looking For New Axle With Brakes For 2000 Ranger Bass Boat Trailer

Updated 11/04/2024 | Published 10/20/2024

Question:

Hi. I need to add brakes to my 2000 Ranger bass boat’s Ranger Trail single axle trailer. I would think replacing axle with electric brakes is cheapest solution. Current axle is square shape and u-bolted to top of leaf springs. Looks like 4” . Tag on trailer says 2995 LB GVWR and 14X6 rims. Can you recommend axle with brakes? Can I bolt to top of leaf springs? Do you need more information? Thanks for your support.

Hey Jason, thanks for reaching out. We may have an axle that will work for you but I will need a bit more information in order to make a recommendation. Specifically, I will need to know the length of the current axle. Axles are measured across from hub-face to hub-face. I will also need to know the distance between the spring seats. Feel free to drop this info in the comments below and I am happy to look into it and see if we have anything for you. Our axles are round tube axles so you will need to get new u-bolts as well. Our axles come with the spring seats welded to the bottom of the axle so the spring back would be bolted to the bottom.

Hi Jesse Center of leaf spring to center of leaf spring is 69”. Hub face to hub face is 86”. Let me know if you have options or need more information. Thanks Jason

@JasonP Gotcha. Unfortunately, it sounds like we do not have a suitable replacement for you. We do have an axle with an 86-1/2" hub face part # e45GR which can be used with the # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K hubs and # AKEBRK-7-SA brakes. This is NOT a direct replacement for what you have now, but it is our closest option. This is a 5,200 lb axle so it may be rated a bit too high for your trailer, plus ours is a round tube not square. We do not carry any square axles. Also the spring seats on the # e45GR axle come pre-welded at 71-1/2" so they would need to be cut off and relocated. Also the # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K hubs are a 6 lug so this may not match what you have now. You may want to try checking with an axle manufacturer like Dexter. They have way more axle options than we do so they should be able to provide something closer to your specifications.
