Will 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Require Brake Light Relay Kit

Updated 10/21/2024 | Published 10/19/2024

Question:

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit that I am setting up for a tow vehicle. I was looking at purchasing your Hopkins custom tail light wiring kits HM59VR. It says I may need a Brake Lite relay kit 88400. Can you tell me if I need that relay kit for my 2014 grand cherokee? If I do can you recommend another product that doesnt require the relay switch? That switch looks like it would be difficult to instal. I have a Patriot 2 braking system for it. Thanks

Hi Patrick; the # RM-88400 is not required for your Patriot 2 or the Hopkins # HM59VR. It is necessary on some vehicles depending on the braking system, but not on your 2014 Grand Cherokee. You will also need a base plate kit # RM-521440-5, tow bar # e74ZR (includes safety cables), and possibly a high-low adapter to complete your setup. If you use the etrailer tow bar it has a built-in rise/drop of 1-1/2" so an adapter may not be necessary. I went ahead and attached a help article below which explain how to measure for the adapter.

I have a blue ox tow bar and will need the base plate for my jeep. Is the correct base plate BX1128?

@RobinH That’s great. Forgot to ask if you ship into Canada and do you charge extra for shipping?

@PatrickK we do ship to Canada. I'm not sure what the shipping cost will be but if you follow the steps to check out it will be listed before you complete payment.
