Can Thicker U-Bolts Be Used for Trailer Axle

Question:
I have a 6000 pound axle with 1/2 inch u bolts on a 3 inch tube axle. I am replacing springs and was wondering if I could step up to a heavier 9/16 u bolt if I bought the correct I bolt and plate

Hi Dan; you can definitely switch to 9/16" diameter U-bolts using the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-9. These are designed for 6k axles like yours with a 3" diameter.

Hey Dan, how did the upgrade to the 9/16 U-bolts go on your 6,000‑lb axle? It’d be great to know if the kit fit smoothly with your 3‑inch tube. Your update could make it easier for others doing the same swap.
