Does Trailer Hub # 8-407-5UC3-EZ Fit Dexter 4,400 lb Axle

Published 10/16/2024

Question:

I use etrailer for all my trailer needs... This time, I need brake drums for my RV - it has a Dexter D44, 4400 axle with 2 L68149 bearings both inner and outer are the same. I see this drum https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hubs-and-Drums/Dexter/8-407-5UC3-EZ.html, but the outer bearing is not correct. Can you provide the part needed? Thanks! Dan

Hey Dan, as long as the outer bearing number you have now has an inner diameter of 1.25 inches like what comes with the # 8-407-5UC3-EZ this will work for you. Do you have a 02475, 14125A, 15123, or a 387A? If so then it is same inner diameter and would work great.

That's my issue, I have the 1.375 inch inner diameter (measured on the axle and the inner bearing surface is a little larger at 1.380). Both the inside bearing and outside bearing on this axle are the same - L68149. Thanks for your reply! Dan

@DanC Is this a much older trailer axle? A straight spindle that is 1.38 inch is not a standard spindle that is made currently so there really isn't anything we offer that would fit. Typically in situations like this the easiest solution is to replace the axles but you can also have new spindles welded on.

@JamesonC This is a 2022 Dexter axle. :(

@DanC That is really odd. I am sorry but we don't have any hubs that would fit a hub that has both the inner and outer bearings as L68149. The 4,400 lb axles are usually odd balls but we've never seen them for a straight spindle with 1.38 inch diameter.
