Solution for Moving 6,000 lb Boat Into Garage With 2013 Silverado

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/12/2024

Question:

Greetings I’m interested in a front mount hitch for my 2013 GMC Silverado diesel pickup. My concern is that I would be using the hitch to move my 6000 lb. boat into the garage to work on the engines. The area is level and paved. Do you offer a more heavy duty front hitch or another alternative to safety move the boat? Thanks Dave

Greetings Dave; unfortunately, all of the available hitches like the # 31322 max out at 5,000 lbs. The front hitch for the 2500 and 3500 have the same limitation. Since there is no option for a front hitch you could use the Trailer Valet XL Trailer Dolly with Chain Drive.

The dolly can handle a gross trailer weight of 10,000 lbs and will work really well on a flat paved surface. It also has a drill attachment to make things even easier. If you have a 2" ball you need the # TVXL2 and for a 2-5/16" ball the # TVXL25. I understand there is quite the price difference between this and the hitch but it is the best solution aside from backing the boat in with your truck.

Hey Dave, how did the Trailer Valet XL work out for moving your 6,000‑lb boat on the paved surface? Your experience could point others toward a safe way to handle heavy trailers in tight spaces.
