Question:
Help troubleshooting Roadmaster tow bar. 3 occurrences last trip. Details on last occurrence. New pavement had estimated 2 inch to 4 inch off on the side. I ped off while towing my 2016 Chevy Equinox. Violent movement occurred in tow vehicle shaking the RV. 2011 Tiffin Allegro Bus 43 QRP. Pulled to side of road. Stopped. Put RV in reverse enough to put back pressure on tow bar. Went forward and towed ok. Two other times situation different. I did not have a clear understanding of cause. It is scary when happens. How can I troubleshoot. I do notice following. Tow vehicle unhooked. Put Roadmaster in up position. Standing behind. Put bar to left. Normal. Put bar to right. Left bar does not go all the way down.

Hey Randall, it sounds like a couple things may be happening/ have happened. One thing that comes to mind is that maybe something inside the arms got damaged during that "violent movement" you described because it sounds like since then, the arms don't work they way they used too.
The other thing that comes to mind is lubrication. Sometimes when these arms don't work the way they used too it's because they need to be lubricated. You'll have to use a silicone spray like the Roadmaster LubeMaster # RM-747 to lube your tow bar. Do not use WD-40 because that will cause the internal bearings to swell or will collect dirt/debris that could further mess up your tow bar.
You will need to spray it on there and work the arms back and forth to make sure that everything gets properly greased. Feeel free to come back and let me know after you try this and you're still having issues.

What about the difference between the way the passengers and drivers side arms lay when folded to the right. The Roadmaster was purchased new around the year 2010. Is there a chance of it needing to be replaced?
