If Trailer Hub Gets Burned Up Does Axle Need to be Replaced
Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/27/2024 >
Question:
Had a hub with electric breaks burn out on my camper. Was told I should replace axle rather than hub due to the extreme heat, Spindle could be damaged. Would you recommend this as well. Thanks.

Hey John, I would say that is is really likely the spindle is damaged to point of needing replacing but you may as well pull the hub off and check to be sure. It could just be the bearings and hub that are damaged but you never know. Also you can just replace the spindles of an axle but they need to be welded on by someone with the correct jigs for the job. If you get me the axle capacity I can let you know what spindles you might need.

Hey John, did you get a chance to pull the hub off your camper axle to check the spindle condition? Once you saw what kind of damage there was, were you able to decide whether to replace the whole axle or just the spindles? Your update could really help others facing the same issue.
