Ground Clearance For Westin Outlaw Nerf Bars on 2024 Toyota Tacoma

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/25/2024

Question:

I am an old guy who today bought his fourth Tacoma extended cab truck. I did not get running boards from Toyota because on the 2021 model that Ive been driving I have a difficult time getting into the drivers seat. Lifting my left leg up on the running board and then trying to maneuver my right leg and butt into the seat is tough. Im thinking that your Nerf Bars with Steps W29MT might lower the step enough that I will be able to reach it with my left foot and then from there lift my right foot in and easily seat myself. Do you know how far this step is from the ground? I am not concerned with ground clearance as I no longer drive in rocky terrain. Your thoughts and recommendations please. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Glenn,

I took a look and from everything I could find, the distance from the ground to the cab on a 2024 Toyota Tacoma is approximately 9-1//2 inches, except for some of the TRD models, which are a bit higher. And I can also tell you the step drops 4-1/2 inches on the Westin Outlaw Nerf Bars with Drop Steps # W29MT.

So that means from the ground to the bottom of the # W29MT will be 5 inches on your '24 Tacoma. Hopefully that'll be a good enough distance to get you up and in the truck without too much trouble.

Hey Glenn, how did the Westin Outlaw Nerf Bars with Drop Steps work out for getting into your Tacoma more easily? It sounds like the lower step might have made a big difference. Your update could help others looking for an easier way to climb into their trucks.
