Will Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Damage Carbon Fiber Frame

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/07/2024

Question:

Hey, I just bought this bike rack. Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack. A installation video mentions that it could damage a carbon frame? Is that true, and if so is there an adapter I can buy for it to eliminate these concerns? Thanks in advance

Hello Brandon; frame mount bike racks like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR aren't recommended for bikes with a carbon fiber frame. The stress on the frame while driving will likely damage the bike which you definitely don't want to do.

To help prevent this you can use the Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar # HRBA-PRO. The adapter attaches to the seat post and the handlebar stem which will help protect the frame. However, there can still be some unwanted force on the frame so it isn't ideal.

A better option would be to use a wheel mount bike rack like the Hollywood Racks TRS SE # HR3000 but the capacity is lower at 50 lbs per bike. If you're transporting e-bikes along with the carbon fiber you might want to consider switching racks. If your bike is over 50 lbs you might be able to reduce the weight enough by pulling the battery.

Hey Brandon, how did things go with your carbon frame bike and the Sport Rider SE rack? Did the adapter bar help give you more confidence in how it holds the bike? Your update could make it easier for others with carbon frames to decide what works best.
