How Do The Arms Of The etrailer XHD Tow Bar e67ZR Lock In Place?

Updated 01/28/2026 | Published 08/27/2024

Question:

When the trailer arms are retracted inside the black housing what keeps them from sliding back out? There does not seem to be a locking mechanism to keep them stationary like when the are extended and hooked to the vehicle. It appears the silver shafts are free to move

Hello Bob. It is normal for the arms of the etrailer XHD Tow Bar # e67ZR to move freely when in the stowed position. The only way to lock the arms is when you are towing. If you want to better secure the tow bar arms, use the Demco Tow Bar Cover # DM9523042. This will help keep the arms in place when the tow bar is stowed.

Hey Bob, did the Demco tow bar cover help keep the XHD tow bar arms from shifting while stowed? Your update could make it easier for others looking to secure their setup the same way.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, I just used a bungee cord to keep them from moving

@BobK Ah yea a bungee cord definitely does the trick. I've seen a handful of folks do it this way. Thanks for taking the time to share!
