Question:

2004 Airstream w Dometic 200 series toilet. Do you have to take toilet apart to change seal? Or can it be changed through the flapper ball opening?

Hi Cheryl,

With this style seal # DOM53FR you would need to remove the bowl from the stack in order to replace the seal. You'll start by removing the base shroud and then loosening the hose clamp and two off-white base clamps under the hose clamp. I would loosen the hose clamp just enough to slip it off the base clamps and leave it still around the toilet.

Once separated you'll see the connection point between the stack and the bowl. The thinner blue seal will sit against the stack and the thicker black seal will sit against the toilet bowl. Both seals will sit against each other when in place and there's a small black plastic piece sticking up on the stack side that the notch in the seals will fit around.

There are other models that you can replace the seal without having to take the bowl off but this unfortunately isn't one. I've attached some pictures though to help walk you through the swap out.
