Solution for Tent Trailer to Help with Ground Clearance Pulling in Driveway

Published 08/21/2024

Question:

My tent trailer currently has 145/80R12 stock tires on it and I am having clearance issues getting out of the driveway. The rims are 5 lug by 4.5. The common ST175/80R13 tires are too big to upsize to because of wheel well clearance issues. Is there anything in between?

Hey Craig, what about a lift kit for your trailer to gain additional ground clearance? As long as your trailer has leaf spring suspension the kit you'd need is the part # LC87120 which will give it a lift of 2-1//4 inches which would make a huge difference in ground clearance.

Do they make extended/longer hangers that would essentially raise the trailer to accomplish the same thing as this kit?

@Craig That is an option but it requires welding and quite a bit more involved (plus there's math). There's also fact your hangers might already be on taller side and a taller option isn't available.
