Can 3,500 lb Axles on 2011 Jayco Jay Flight 22FB Be Replaced With 4,400 lb Axles

Question:
I have a 2011 Jayco Jay Flight 22FB with tandem 3500 lbs axles, HF=86.00, SC=68.50. I would like to upgrade the axles to 4400 lbs. Can a 4400 axle, HF=86.50, SC=68.50 be attached to the frame without moving the hangers?

Hi Keith; you wouldn't have to move anything if you replaced the axles. They're going to stick out 1/4" further on either side which won't be an issue. However, 4,400 lb axles are considered obsolete. Although there may be some out there, there aren't many left and replacement parts aren't exactly abundant.
When our customers have to replace their 4,400 lb axles they typically have to move to a 5,200 lb axle for this reason. I would encourage you to stick with the 3,500 lb you have now so this doesn't become an issue for you as well. Increasing the axle capacity doesn't increase the capacity of the trailer. Since you will still be limited by the weakest component there isn't much to gain.

Hi Keith, how did things work out with your Jay Flight after looking into the axle options? It’d be great to hear whether you stayed with the 3,500‑lb axles or found another route. Your update could make it easier for others considering a similar upgrade.
