Suspension Enhancement Options For 2018 Ram 1500 With In-Bed Gooseneck Hitch

Question:

I see that the Air Lift Loadlifter 5000 does not work with a turnover ball on 2018 Ram 1500. If it did thats what I would go with. Can i do it with some minor modifications, or what do you suggest as the next best option. Thanks.

Hello Al. You are correct that the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 # AL88365 will not work with a B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. The brackets go in the exact same place and there is no way to safely modify either of the brackets to make it work.

The next best option for air suspension will be the Firestone Coil-to-Air-Spring Conversion Kit # F2595. These replace the factory coil springs with an air helper spring. This gives you the adjustability of an air bag, so you can level your ride while getting better stability and ride quality.

After that, another good option is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DS. These are 6,000 lb rubber jounce springs. They will do a great job supporting the rear suspension while you are towing, and they are very easy to install. The only downside here is they are not adjustable, and sometimes they can make the ride rougher when you are not towing.

You will find install videos for both products linked below. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the quick reply. How does the ride when not towing or hauling with the Firestone air bag conversion compare to the stock coil springs?

@Al The air springs can run at a minimum of 5 PSI so when you are not towing you can let some air out and it will be much more like the factory ride. Once you find the right PSI for the unloaded truck you should not see much of a difference between the factory ride and the air spring ride.
