Question:
I’ve got a boat trailer 1998 with an ausco brake system. The brake actuator requires a special ausco controller that controls the delay in which the brakes operate. I want to replace that actuator with something new that will be compatible with a standard truck brake controller I’ve got a 2024 Chevy Silverado I believe the system is hydraulic and I’d prefer to keep that so I don’t have to make a full switch to all electric. Can you provide a recommendation for what kind of actuator to use ? Thank you ! Alex

Hey Alex,
So it sounds like you just want to replace your Ausco electric over hydraulic actuator with one that is compatible with your Chevy's brake controller, and you can definitely do that no problem. Since you have a boat trailer I'm assuming disc brakes and what you can get is the Hydrastar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS381-8067.
This will work with your Chevy brake controller so it won't require you to switch from EOH to the weaker all-electric brakes on your trailer.

Kyle , Thanks ! The trailer actually has drum brakes. Would which one of the actuators would I need ? Looks like there are 1000psi, or 1200 psi. The boat / trailer is about 8000 lbs so would the 1200 psi be the correct unit ? Also would I need to buy the CAM unit to make the truck brake controller work ? Thanks again !
