Question:

I have a 2019 Range Rover Sport that I use to tow a 22 Zodiac on a trailer - the all in weight is around 6000 lbs. I need to put a rise in the hutch as it is too low but it also needs an extender to clear the bumper. I have the hitch with the rise. It I’m not sure if the right extender to purchase. I only need a few inches of extension to be able to clear the rear bumper. I. It ice a lot do the extenders are not for towing, Thanks , Tom

Hi Tom; the Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender # RM-071-1075 you were looking at is going to be the best option. However, you will need to make sure your setup doesn't exceed the 400 lb max tongue weight of the extender. You also need to be aware of the fact that a hitch extender reduces the capacity of your hitch by 50%. If you're saying the weight of the Zodiac and trailer is 6,000 lbs I'm guessing you will be over capacity.

If that is the case, you could also use the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-303. This is actually designed for an adjustable ball mount and won't reduce the capacity of your hitch despite extending the receiver. It has a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs and max tongue weight of 1,500 lbs so it will definitely be able to handle your trailer. This doesn't come with a hitch pin so you'll need the # 325-GH-096 or # e98882 if you want a lock. You may also want to add in the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp # GY88XR to reduce the extra movement from adding additional parts to your setup.
