Can 4-Way Power Reverse Lights on Trailer

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/05/2024

Question:

Hello. I just installed the tow hitch and wiring harness on my 2014 town and country. Everything works but the reverse lights. Brake lights ok, blinkers ok and getting both power to the 4 pin harness. No issue before. Does the wiring harness not come with a pin or wire that connects for the reverse lights? I’m asking ahead of time as I just did it today. I have not troubleshot much yet except to make sure power is going to the 4 pin harness, which it is.

Hi James; the 4-way is not designed to run power to your reverse light circuit. What you can do is add the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Flat to 5-Way Flat # C57187. The 5th pin connects to the reverse lights on your vehicle which can send power to the lights on the trailer. You will also need a 5-way connector for the trailer side like # HM47910 and # 12-1-1 to run wire to the reverse lights on the trailer along with butt connectors # 05732-2 to make your connections.

Hey James, how did things go after adding the 5-way adapter and wiring it to your reverse lights? Knowing what worked might help others setting up a similar trailer connection.
