How to Choose Replacement Gas Shock for Entry Door on RV

Updated 11/16/2024 | Published 06/28/2024

Question:

How do I go about getting the right gas spring for an entry door? Does it depend on the type of trailer/motor home?

Hey Shyanne, thanks for reaching out again!

The best way to replace the gas spring on your entry door is to look for any identifying markers on your current gas spring and try to match it with what you have.

For example, the Gas Shock # 372-5300-10 is rated for 10 lb of Force and measures 20" Extended and 11.41" Compressed. These measurements are taken from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other ball socket so you can compare that to what you have.

Let me know what you find and I'll be happy to help you look for the best option to get your door back up and running!

I need the 20" extended/ compressed 12"/10pds..but...the diameter of the JR is to big to fit under the door when closed. The old one there is no markings for ID..the diameter measured is 15.25. what do I need? thanks..

@Lynn I think I need a little more clarity - I don't have the diameter of the JR Products gas shock, but I can definitely say that it doesn't have a diameter remotely close to 15.25" as far as the thickness goes.
