Will New Landing Gear Motor Fix Stalling Near Top Height of Legs
Updated 07/05/2024 | Published 06/27/2024 >
Question:
I have a 2004 Forest River Cardinal 5th wheel. The motor I have powers down when trying to lift the camper the last four or 5 inches before hook up. I have to wait a few seconds then it will lift a few seconds then shuts off. After a few more seconds it will work again. Will this motor take care of that? The one I have is rated for 5500lbs.

Hey David, thanks for reaching out!
A new motor like the Tuson High Speed 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear Motor # TUS57FR could definitely improve the performance of your landing gear, but before replacing the motor I recommend trying to manually operate the landing gear near that "catching" point to make sure it's the motor that's having problems and not the internal screw.
If you're able to smoothly operate the landing gear, then the new motor will fix your problem. Otherwise, you'll need to get a new internal screw or new set of landing gear.
Please note this motor will fit the following landing gear models so if you have something different please let me know:
- Lippert Components landing gear systems 141893 or 142178
- Norco landing gear system R862270
