Best Weight Distribution Hitch For Gulfstream Streamlite 18RBD Travel Trailer

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/25/2024

Question:

Hello, I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie crew cab and I tow a Gulfstream Streamlite 18RBD. my truck has tow package but does not have air suspension. The trailer is a single axle and so it tends to have a bit of sway that makes it a little uncomfortable on highway. Would a WDH hitch be my best bet to alleviate the sway? and what weight rating would you recommend? Thanks

Hi Lewin,

Good question, and the answer is yes, by far the best way to alleviate sway when towing your Gulfstream Streamlite 18RBD travel trailer is a weight distribution hitch. And for your Gulfstream, the best weight distribution hitch is the following from Blue Ox:

- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0550

The SwayPro # BXW0550 is rated for trailers with a total tongue weight between 350 lbs and 550 lbs so it's perfectly rated for your Gulfstream Streamlite 18RBD. What the SwayPro does is combat sway at four different points on the hitch (at both sides of the hitch head and brackets) which allows more overall control over sway than other systems.

Importantly, the hitch is also much, much quieter than others because it uses brackets that connect to lift chains. This means you won't hear the loud, grating noise that comes with hitches that use metal-on-metal friction-style brackets.

The SwayPro # BXW0550 comes with everything you need for installation, and is easier to set up than other systems due to the clamp-on brackets and lift chains. To get the right tension you just tighten the chains with the included wrench and you're set.

Hey Lewin, how did things go with the Blue Ox SwayPro on your Ram and Gulfstream setup? Did it make your highway towing feel more stable? Your experience could point others in the right direction.
