Can Weld-On Trailer Coupler Also Have Bolts Secure it

Hi on a weld on coupler, after welding could you also put 1/2 grade 8 bolts for added safety? thank you ,Michael

Hey Michael, there's no reason you couldn't do that. It would be a bit redundant but it wouldn't compromise the welds or the coupler in anyway.

@JamHello to start off this hitch works great I had it welded in place, I went one step farther I picked up a couple grade 8 bolts , and drilled a couple holes and installed the bolts more so just a peace of mind on my part. I will say this I am very pleased with my purchase, Michael esonC

The coupler part #CA5100B measures 9-1/4 inches wide and 8 inches tall where it attaches to a standard a-frame. The narrowest part of the angle of the coupler is 2". I have attached a diagram to show you the dimensions.

The recommended clearance with leaf spring suspension on an unloaded trailer is between 2 - 2-1/2 inches. You should have sufficient clearance with your loaded trailer, as leaf springs only tend to deflect 1-1/2 inch when carrying a load.
