Will The Curt Gooseneck Adapter For Base Rails # 16055 Move The Ball Behind The Axle

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/24/2024

Question:

Looking at the Curt gooseneck bent plate adaptor. Will the 3inch offset move the tongue weight of the trailer to the rear? If so do they make one with the ball centered as I do not want to shift the tongue weight behind the axle.

Hey Patrick,

The Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails - 3" Offset # 16055 would move the ball behind the axle instead of having it centered over the axle. If you're looking for one that will center the ball then you would need the Curt Spyder # 16085 instead. I've attached a short video below where Jake will show you these two adapters in use to give you a better idea of how they work.

Hey Patrick, how did things go with the Curt Spyder gooseneck hitch you were considering? Your experience could point others toward the right setup for keeping their trailer weight balanced.
