Splicing In A Curt 4-Pole Trailer Connector To A Hopkins Towed Vehicle Wiring Kit

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/23/2024

Question:

I have the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles Item HM56200 installed on my 2017 Jeep Wrangler. I need to install the Curt 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector for the lighting on my bike rack. Green, Brown and White wires are obvious but where do I need to connect the yellow wire into the hopkins to get the left brake and turn signal lights to work?

Hi Wayne,

You would need to use a tester # PTW2993 to probe into the wires for the left side of the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56200 and determine which one has power when the turn signal or brake light are on. I would install diodes # RM-690 to prevent any feedback from the Curt # C58345 to the Hopkins wire harness.

Hey Wayne, how did things go with wiring the Curt 4-way connector into your Hopkins tail light kit? Your setup sounds detailed, and it’d be great to know if the diodes helped keep the signals working cleanly. Sharing what worked could really help others adding bike rack lights to a similar setup.
