Should An RV Water Pressure Regulator Be Adjusted While The Water Is Running Or Static

Question:

Do you adjust the screw when water is running through the hose ie: faucet is open, or do you adjust when all faucets are closed. Let’s say I want 55PSI, my current setup has 80 PSI when the hose has no water running though it all faucets closed-static and when I run the indoor shower for instance, I get 55PSI. is this the correct way to set it or is mine now set for 80PSI?

Hey Jeff,

You can adjust the Valterra Adjustable Water Regulator for RVs # A01-1117VP with the campground water running and the valves in the RV closed. The gauge shows outbound water pressure and not the pressure coming in. With the faucets open they would be letting off some pressure and you could accidentally overdo your adjustments. You want the static pressure to not exceed 60psi, otherwise your pipes or their joints could break and leak out.

Hey Jeff, how did things go after adjusting the Valterra water regulator with the valves closed? Did setting the static pressure under 60 psi give you the steady 55 psi you were aiming for? Your update could make it easier for others trying to fine-tune their water pressure.

@RobinH, I have my water pressure gauge set at 60, maybe 61 psi but I’m not getting the steady 55 psi. I probably get more of a steady 45 to 50. The only way to get a steady 60 psi would be to be setting a static pressure of about 70-75I’m guessing. Since the water pump kicks in at 55 psi however I would expect that much pressure all the time throughout my system which I’m not getting anywhere near. It’s not really an answer, but this is what it is.
