Is Carpeted Y-Style Bow Stop Normal for a Boat Trailer

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/10/2024

Question:

Have you ever seen this carpeted. On the Mastercraft trailer it has a carpeted V bunk that the boat slides on as it approaches the stop where a pin and hook attach to it. Thoughts?

Hey Don, thanks for reaching out!

Boat trailers are unique animals because they are usually made for a specific boat in mind, and then the owners will swap out parts as needed or if they want to make any upgrade. I've never personally seen a Y-Style box stop that's carpeted, but I imagine it will function the same as the Heavy-Duty Rubber # YR7Y44-4 that you're looking at.

If it's currently working just fine then I wouldn't be concerned about replacing it. However, if you're seeing some wear patterns that don't look right then it sounds like a good idea to replace the parts to keep your boat in good shape for as long as possible.

Hey Don, how did things go with the heavy-duty rubber bow stop on your Mastercraft trailer? Did it seem to perform about the same as the carpeted V bunk you mentioned? Your update could make it easier for others comparing those materials.
